You can use them as a side for nearly any meal with some Texas Roadhouse Butter or even as rolls for homemade sandwiches.

🧂 Ingredients

This is meant to be a brief overview of this great recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.

  • milk
  • granulated sugar
  • active dry yeast
  • egg
  • butter
  • salt
  • all purpose flour

🔪 Instructions

  1. Stir together the milk and sugar in a small bowl until blended.
  2. Add the instant yeast to the milk and stir to incorporate. Allow the yeast mixture to proof for 5 minutes.
  3. Using the dough hook attachment, blend the egg, melted butter, and salt in a mixing bowl until mixed well.
  4. Alternate adding the flour, about a half cup, and milk; blend until a shaggy soft dough forms.
  5. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, turn once to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and leave at room temperature in a warm area to rise for an hour.
  6. Punch the dough down and turn it out on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Let the dough rest for ten minutes.
  8. Shape the dough into a rectangle and roll until about an inch thick.
  9. Cut the dough into 15 smaller rectangles. A pizza cutter works great for this.
  10. Transfer the dough to a larger baking sheet lined with parchment paper or cooking spray.
  11. Cover and allow the dough to rise for 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat the oven to 375F degrees. Bake the yeast rolls for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.

⭐ Tips

✔️ Check the temperature of the warm milk with a thermometer before adding in the yeast. If the milk is too hot, it will kill the yeast and the rolls won't rise.

✔️ Scrape down the sides of the bowl before forming the roll dough into a ball.

✔️ Place the dough in a warm environment to allow the dough to rise.

🍲 Storage

To Store: Leftover rolls should be stored in an airtight container. (These are my favorite airtight containers.)

To Reheat: The best way to warm rolls is by wrapping them in aluminum foil and placing them in the oven for 5 minutes at 350F. Alternatively, you can microwave them for 10-15 seconds.

To Freeze: Allow the rolls to cool completely, then place them into a freezer bag. Label and freeze for up to 3 months.

To Thaw: Remove the frozen rolls from the freezer and place them in the fridge to thaw overnight.

📖Variations

The first time you try any new recipe we recommend that you make it just as it is written on the recipe card since that is how our Texas Roadhouse Rolls recipe has been tested. However, the next time you make our recipe, you might want to try one of these ideas:

For gluten free rolls, look for 1:1 gluten-free flour. I like this "measure for measure" flour. You can also substitute almond flour at a 1:1 ratio.

Any plain unsweetened milk will work in this roll recipe.

Want to shake things up? Add in some of your favorite fresh herbs like basil, rosemary, or thyme. All you need to do is chop them fine and mix them into the dough. You can also use a little bit of Italian seasoning or even apple pie spice mix to add flavor.

You can serve these rolls any time of day! They're a great side dish for dinner or making little breakfast sandwiches. I love them for holidays meals like Easter brunch and Thanskgiving, too.

You can serve them with honey cinnamon butter, brown sugar butter, or maple bacon butter. However, these amazing rolls are also delicious with savory garlic chive butter, copycat Benihana Butter, or cowboy butter.
